Our Members

Our membership is drawn from the business community of Edinburgh, over 500 men and women representing over 40 business sectors.

Membership of The Royal Company of Merchants gives the practical and social benefits of a modern business forum and charitable organisation combined with traditions and a history unique in the city of Edinburgh.

The Company is a charitable organisation which gives Members the opportunity to give something back to the Edinburgh community through involvement in the many charities and considerable financial assets which the Company administers to help the young and the elderly. It is good at providing networking opportunities and personal development through events and activities.

As a Member, you can attend Company Meetings and support business and social events. You could serve on Standing Committees, or assist the Education, Liaison & Enterprise Committee. Our members assist with:

  • Presentations and talks at Merchant Company Schools
  • Mock Job interviews for pupils at Merchant Company and other Schools
  • Running Business Dynamics Courses
  • Young Enterprise Advice
  • Supporting the Charities Committee by administering grant support and supporting the work of the Almoner in the community.

In doing so, our members carry on the traditions that have existed for more than 300 years and help us ensure that the Company will continue for the next 300 years.
