Becoming a Member

How to Join

Application for membership is made through the Secretary & Chamberlain in the first instance. He can answer any questions you may have about joining and will provide you with the paperwork you need to apply.

There are two basic criteria you must meet in order to be considered eligible for membership, namely that you must be – or have been – in business and live or work within 20 miles of General Register House in the centre of Edinburgh. In addition to completing the application form, you will require current members to propose and second your application, after which it will go forward for approval to the Court and all the members.

If you become a member you will sign the Roll book, like every member since 1681, at one of the Stated General Meetings held quarterly by the Company.
