It was with great sadness that we heard the announcement of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

Her association with the Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh goes back over 70 years, beginning shortly after her marriage. On 3 March 1949, Princess Elizabeth, along with Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, joined the Merchant Company as honorary members. The ceremony took place in the Usher Hall. She went on to be our Patron in 1952.

The Company was deeply honoured to have been granted our Royal title in December 2017 by Her Majesty – an honour that is unique in livery circles.

We mourn the loss of our Patron, and celebrate her long life, her dedication, her huge service and contribution to our nation. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this time.
